Praying For Sanctity Of Life

Marshall Segal, in an insightful article, Pro-Life from Womb to Tomb, said: “Human life — from the very moment it begins to its very last breath — is the pinnacle of God’s creative imagination and power. “God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth’ (Genesis 1:26).

Developing a heart for human life, all human life, from a vision and reality like this, will radically transform and inspire how we treat people of every age, every ethnic background, and every socioeconomic status. The cause for life began at creation when God made man and woman in his image and gave us dominion over every other created thing. And God punctuated the cause for life when he chose to enter the womb himself for our sake. Can you imagine an ultrasound of the living God at two weeks, or twenty weeks, or full term?”

Segal’s visual of imagining Jesus in the womb is powerful! He was the Living God before time…and now, a fetus in the womb of a young virgin…who would one day grow up, give up his human life on a cross, and be raised to His divine life forever…so that, we too, might have everlasting life!

Father, we repent that our culture has not fully stood up to protect life. We have compromised our principles for political correctness and backed off when challenged. You created us in Your image and, no matter if it is a baby in the womb, or an aged person at the end of his or her life, every life to You is precious and sacred. Forgive us, Lord, and give us boldness to stand for those who cannot defend themselves against the cultural sinfulness in which we find ourselves, where life is cheap and hearts are hardened. Wake us up to earnestly pray for life to be honored and protected, as You designed it to be!

• Give praise to the Creator of all life…and the Creator of your uniquely designed and purposeful life!
• Thank God that He has made us in His image to reflect His glory.
• Ask the Father to forgive you when you have not had a broken heart for children whose lives are being aborted, for the lives of the sick and elderly, or for special needs individuals.
• Ask God to give you boldness and courage in standing up for and honoring all life from “womb to tomb.”
• Ask God to give you and your church the courage to make the sanctity of life a primary issue for prayer and action!
